Unhappy OxOeedfade
Hi. I am your basic PC user, i.e. not a novice but with no specialist knowledge. I use Windows XP. Here's my problem. My computer has become slow and sluggish as hell. Whenever I shut down my PC, just when I get the screen saying "Windows is shutting down" an error message appears saying "the exception unknown software exception (OxOeedfade) occured in the application at location 0x7c812a5b". Is this the result of a virus or something else? Any thoughts as to how I might sort this out. I really don't want to have to re-load windows as that is such a pain.

Cheers, Paul B

A few Google searches indicates many people thinking this is related to Internet Explorer and Norton Antivirus (note: the exception is 0x0eedfade with zeros).

When the error ocurs what is in the window title bar? It usually shows an application name on the bar, with the error in the window below it.

It just says that and nothing else. Also, since this has started happening it seems to be interfering with my windows firewall. It doesn't automatically engage when I boot up my pc.

You might want to go to Event Viewer and look for Application Errors (red) under Application for more information. The name of the faulting application would be most helpful.

You need to click on Start, Run, and then in the Open box type: eventvwr.msc then hit Enter. When it opens, click on Application and look through the list for red Application Errors with dates and times corresponding to when you see the 0x0eedfade problem. Hopefully some useful information about the error.

Ok. Two things keep coming up in the event viewer. The first is a warning which says:

"Windows saved user SHINYTHING\paul baker registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.
This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account"

The other is a red application error which says:

"Hanging application firefox.exe, version 1.8.20070.30919, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."

This is all greek to me. Any thoughts.
