Using Windows XP Home SP2

I have an error message "Windows - no disk" that appears four times each time I start the PC, if I click continue it goes away and all is fine.
I think it is something to do with "Dit.exe" in the start up, but that allows "nice" icons to be displayed in "My Computer" showing the SD card slot , I have four multi card reader slots. However it as work fine for three years, so why play up now!
I have started in Safe mode and the error does not appear.
I have included a Hijackthislog.

Thank you. I had tried that one, but alot of the items on the guys list are not on mine, and I have some on mine that are not on his. So I wasn't sure what to tick to be "Fixed" by Hijack!

Every HJT read out will be different, we don't all run the same things on our computers. Yours is longer then some, and shorter then others, all depends, again, on what you're running when you do the HJT. I attached mine, you will see how diferrent it is from yours. I would test your theory, take out dit.exe from the start up and see if you get the errors. If you don't, try running DIT, and see if the errors pop up. If the errors then pop up, it could be corrupt, uninstall it and reinstall it. If the error still happens when you take it out of start up, then dit.exe probably isn't your culprit, and you know it's time to look elsewhere.

Hello Skydawg. I would be careful with trying to work here with HijackThis log files unless you are certified at it. We have our own certified people and they are the ones with the little blue or gold shields to the right of their names and some do not have the shields but none-the-less I have learned to stay away from HJT log files myself becasue I am not as they say certified.

I didn't tell him to do anything with his HJT read out... I just stated they are all different, I happen to know what to look for in HJT though, they aren't that hard to read, been doing it long enough. But again, I didn't tell him to use HJT to do anything, what I stated was a manual test of his dit.exe. Thanks for the advice though.

is looking for your reference library 2007 DVD on startup.
Try booting with that DVD in the drive and see if you eliminate the error.
IF that works let me suggest that you download and install code stuff starter.


You can use it to disable or remove that entry.

dit.exe is the drive icon and lable utility which lets you specify a drive letter and name and icon for a removable media drive.
Since you suspect it is the cause, try disabling it with starter. IF that solves it, you just need to remember to reenable it and reboot before you use the card,
I think some antivirus programs can cause it to misbehave when they see it and try to scan the media card which is not there (What antivirus? Is this the Zone Alarm Internet Security or just the firwall?)

Have you tried disabling it by running msconfig and unchecking it under the startup tab?

Hi Folks thanks for all the advice.
I am using Zone Alarm A and Firewall.
If I stop DIT.exe in MSCONFIG I don't get the error. However it always use to run OK and has only started to mess about recently, may Zone Alarm is upsetting it as I did install that recently!
I don't want to stop using DIT.exe as I use the Multi media card slots all the time!

I'm not exactly what dit.exe is required for in XP. You should be able to use any multi media card without it I believe in spite of what some sites say. It's not a default XP file -- so some software you installed added it -- and you may be able to remove and reinstall it if you know what that is.
