Blackmirror, I do not want to be a pain but the two logs are dratically different. Here below is the last log from the other thread

Now please compare it to the log posted earlier in this thread. I wonder if this is from the same computer? It seems there is a lot more in this log posted here first than in the one Ijust pasted in.

Yep, they would be different, because I didn't have all of the antivirus and spyware programs installed when I ran the other one last night. I also noticed that this was in the running processes, which is the popup I keep getting any time I try to open anything to do with MSN. Can I just delete it or rename it?

C:\Program Files\MSN\MSNCoreFiles\msn6.exe

And yes, it is from the same computer. LOL

Oops.....my bad! I copied it from the wrong Hijack log. The file below was actually in the running processes from my original Hijack report. I don't see it running in my current report, but I didn't have any problems with the msn6.exe file until last night either.

I've merged both threads together as there was no need to start new one.

Go to Start - Run - type in eventvwr.msc and click OK. Look under both "application" and "system" for recent errors shown in red and do this for each one. Double click the error to open it. Then click on the icon that looks like two pieces of paper to copy the error to the clipboard. Then paste it into Word or Notepad. Then copy and paste the errors in a reply here please.

Oops! Sorry about that! Thought it would be less confusing for ya'll to start a fresh post. I'm just replying now, because once again......I had to shut my computer down, and it wouldn't boot back up....... again! It wouldn't boot in Last Good Known Config or Safe Mode. When I kept trying, then I got this message:

A problem was detected and we terminated to protect your computer from damage. Check for adequate disk space . If driver is identified in stop message, disable driver or check for updates. Try changing video adapter. Check with hardware vendor for BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as cache and shadowing.

I couldn't get the rest of the message, cause it rebooted on it's own and I didn't catch it.

Then, I went in to do a Repair, cause I didn't want to lose all the updates, programs, etc. that I've been putting on for the past 3 days AGAIN! I got this error right at the end when it was applying the settings:

The signature is invalid and setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error.

Then, when I restarted the repair....it went through and I was able to get back online. I did run another eventlog per your request below:

Have you downloaded and ran diagnostics from the hard drive manufacturer? . . Sure sounds like that drive is failing

Well, I ran Belarc Advisor at the suggestion of Ozrom1e, and Data Lifeguard Diagnostics at Soundy's request, and they both came back as healthy and Passed. Is that the same type of program that you're referring to? Could it have anything to do with needing to update any of my drivers? And how would I do that?

I think gwsewell's post got added as a reply instead of a new topic by mistake.

I didn't find a file called setuperr.log I even did a search for it and nothing showed up. I tried to run it from the start menu, couldn't find anything the way it's listed above, but when I ran setup err, it came back with a message that I should "Windows XP Setup ~ Please go to the control panel to install and configure system components."

I'm going to ask someone else to take a look at those errors. It looks like the setup is not completing properly. What media are you using to isntall? Is it the original XP CD?

My computer is old, so it came with a Windows 95 cd. I upgraded to XP Pro using a cd that our IT tech gave me at my previous workplace. He does all the work on their computers. Thanks!

hi mommyoffive,
my old computer was a compaq presario and when i first bought it , it did everything but make the coffee.it was the fastest ,had the most ram and the biggest harddrive at the time.it also had windows 95 i upgraded to 98se then to winme and by the time xp came around it was just an old dinosaur. i went to WalMart and bought a emachiines computer with everything except the printer in the box for under $500.the first thing i did was put a password in the bios. it is a little bit of a pain putting in the password everytime you start up but as long as you make it something your kids would never guess like a pet you never told them about or your first boyfriends birthday, they can never ruin your comp.
Also NEVER delete programs... go to add and remove programs that you dont want. always unistall rather than delete.
thirdly.when installing programs go slowly and read everything before you click next DON'T save it to anything that says start up in it or do you want it to start everyime windows starts because it will slow down your comp and take up available memory
goodluck with your computer. i would have suggested putting in your restore disc and shutting down your comp and restarting it but that will only put the oldest version and you'd have to keep upgrading to get to the newest version and each time you upgrade you have to get the upgrades for all the drivers for all of your programs before you can upgrade to the next one etc.
i hope this helps

Thanks, LoriCat! I have a compaq presario too that I'm waiting for to be shipped! We just moved across country, and I haven't gotten all my things sent yet. LOL That's how this Micron PC has been. I've had it forever and it's always worked great! Until recently when I got really infected! I appreciate your suggestions! It's slowly getting back to a workable condition again, so hopefully it'll make it until I get my other one! Thanks!
