Why does my computer keep on hanging/acting up?
Why does my computer keep on hanging/acting up?

I'm using a Pentium dual core 2.66gHz with 80gb HD, 512mb Ram and Video Card. I don't have much files and I love to play online games but the thing is whenever I play, my pc is hanging (the cursor isn't moving) I already detected some spywares and deleted them, since I'm using a SpyBot and scan it everyday using my AVG Anti-virus scanner. I'm afraid that it would end up even worse if I can't do something about it. I already asked this question in Yahoo! Answers and someone advised me to scan it using the software called 'Hijack this' and these are the results:

Hi ladyanj, Here is what I'd like you do do:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

If you get any script blocking messages, it's because of this:

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply.

I followed your instructions and it says that there are 33 processes and I'm not launching any programs except Mozilla Firefox, Yahoo Messenger and the Smitfraudfix. I've noticed that more of these are svchost.exe and other exes that I barely understand and I don't know what to do with it.

Hi, OK, the major part of this SmitFraud infection you have had, has been removed by some other program or scan, but let's have you do what is below, which will clean up any leftovers:

SUPERAntispywarePro Free Trial version:
Download the Trial version of Superantispyware Pro (SAS):
http://www.superantispyware.com/supe....html?rid=3132

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
Click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
o Close browsers before scanning
o Scan for tracking cookies
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
o Please leave the others unchecked.
o Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
o After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
o Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
o Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
Click close and close again to exit the program.
Please paste that information here for me with a new Hijack This log.

It says there are two options for download -- the one for home use and the other one for professional. Which is better here?

Oh BTW, I forgot to tell you that the programs installed were clones from my friend's PC. I believe the PC is one of the PCs she used for her internet cafe. Do you think this has something to do with the hanging?

Hi,

I am not sure I understand the "clones" part of your reply....do you mean all the programs on this PC? How were they "cloned"? Did you perhaps copy the entire hard drive?

Do this please:

Open Hijack This and click on the Config button then on "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list into your reply please.

Do this please:

Open Hijack This and click on the Config button then on "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list into your reply please.
I'm not really sure what happened because I wasn't there when my friend installed/cloned the program files. I'll update this post as soon as I get to talk to her.

Hi, Well, if she simply copied downloaded installers, like for example, the download for Mozilla Firefox (2.0.0.4)
to your hard drive to install from, then that's fine....

By now things should be acting a bit better, do your programs, games etc work now? How is the Internet working?

Run Hijackthis again> Put a check next to this item if it shows in your scan window, then CLOSE this and all other browser, Internet, chat, IM, email windows....nothing open but Hijackthis....and click "Fix checked":

O4 - Startup: DrAntispy.lnk = C:\Program Files\DrAntispy\DrAntispy.exe

Take a look in Windows Explorer and verify that the entire folder DrAntispy has gone /delete it if you see any of it there.

Close Hijackthis, restart the computer, and post a new log from hijackthis.

I already spoke to her and she told me that the hard drive of my pc was cloned from another hard drive. Others were manually installed.

The internet works well, I use Mozilla to surf the net and often chat through Yahoo Messenger. My problem is I can't play online games (RAN Online, Audition) games that I manually installed (Battle Realms, War of the Ring, DOTA and Warcraft III) Heck it even hangs up when I play Jewel Quest.

I fixed the
O4 - Startup: DrAntispy.lnk = C:\Program Files\DrAntispy\DrAntispy.exe in Hijackthis and checked my Windows Explorer. Is this the one that I usually find in my Program Files? I checked that and I found no trace of Dr. Antispy but a new folder of backup popped up in my Desktop after I fixed this problem. What am I gonna do with it?
