Task manager was turned off by administrator
Afew days ago I had "task manager was turned off by administrator" Only my husband and I are on this pc. we didn't turn it off. I rebooted and still it was not on . I system restored and got it back. Does anyone know how to turn it back on or how it was turned off? Thanks, this site is the best! If you have not donated yet you really need to!

I believe the official Windows message is "disabled" -- but in any case you should do a thorough malware scan as this issue is often related.

In the meantime (and this too can be disabled by malware) run regedit.exe and navigate to the location shown below. If you see the policy restriction there, just right click on it and delete it:

User Key:

Name: DisableTaskMgr

Value: (0 = default, 1 = disable Task Manager)

Task manager disabled by the administrator
Or if you are not familiar with the registry this is easier to sort your problem

Start/run type , or should I say copy and paste into the box

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Press enter
