I can see NVCPL trying to be a startup item in my config sys. I managed to get about 15 other startup items to be disabled. Not sure if they slow down my PC or not but my PC is slow.

Question #1:
So do the below startup items need to be on my startup?? They include (not sure if I can print from the screen or how so must type these...)
NVCPL
FSM32,
TNButil, (of which I am mighty suspicious)
NvMcTray,
nwiz,
NA,
RECGUARD,
Remind_XP,
PDVDServ,
hpgs2wnd,
SOUNDMAN,
ZLCLIENT,
hpaIodEVICE.

Question #2: I disabled all above for now and NVCPL as well but NVCPL pops up Enabled .... the command is:
RUNDLL32.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nvCpl.dll,NvStartup
It is located at:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run

a)Is it ok if NVCPL stays enabled? If not then how do I kick it out of my startup list?

Welcome to TSG

nvCpl.dll is your nVidia control panel ... nothing wrong with that. however, it can be disabled and it will remain disabled if you switch the nVidia control panel to 'classic view'

For the other items, if you're not sure what they are, the first thing is to do an internet search (Google) for them. You will usually get a hit near the top that will tell you what the process is.

I will just leave it be.
I will also look up the other commands and enable them if I deem them to be ok
Is there a trusted site to look these up at? Google gives me a witch's brew of opinions on what different files are and their security risks. And I'm not so sure of the websites I am going to although I guess ZoneAlarm will stop attacks...

thx to you Oracle and Claymore I have resolved the issue...
I have added PCReview and liutilities to my bookmarks for future use and I have determined I can just leave the startup items there but disabled and ignore them for now.
