Before anything else, you have a problem with your hard drive and it's important:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7
Date: 11/28/2007
Time: 3:00:08 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HOME-4DCA7B39F4
Description:
The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.

A bad block is a problem which might indicate the drive is going bad. How old is the drive and is it still under warranty?

This error is repeated and repeated. The information written to a bad block will not be read and may be contributing to your problems.

Let's have a look:

To run Chkdsk go to start >Run and type

cmd.exe
Press enter

Copy this command to your clipboard:
chkdsk /r /f

When the prompt appears Right click in the window and click paste on the menu.

Press enter.
You'll be told that the drive is locked and asked if you want to run the check at next boot. Choose yes.

Do the same again using this command.
Copy this command to your clipboard:
chkdsk D: /r /f
Press enter.
You'll be told that the drive is locked and asked if you want to run the check at next boot. Choose yes.

Restart and allow it to run.

When you get back, go to Start >Run and type
Eventvwr.msc

Press enter

Double click on Application in the left pane.
Look in the right pane for an item whose source says winlogon.

Double click on that to get the report chkdsk created.

What does it say?

If you want to copy it, look at the icon which looks like two pages and click on it.

That copies it to your clipboard. Paste that in here.

This error struck me. Did you try to replace the uxtheme.dll and restore the original? It appears that you did and then cancelled. What happened there please?
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Windows File Protection
Event Category: None
Event ID: 64005
Date: 11/28/2007
Time: 5:53:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HOME-4DCA7B39F4
Description:
The protected system file uxtheme.dll was not restored to its original, valid version because the Windows File Protection restoration process was cancelled by user interaction, user name is Jason. The file version of the bad file is 6.0.2900.2180.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

------------------

If it were me, after finishing all this, I would back up any files on that drive to CD if possible so they weren't lost in the event of a hard drive failure.

Then we'll continue. I'll look closer at your events files after we determine the state of your drive.

I see you did try to replace the dll we mentioned and it was replaced successfully in nother attempt. But from where? The hard drive or from an install disk? Had you replaced it earlier before this all started? Part of that would have been to rename all copies of the uxtheme.dll on the drive so that file protection wouldn't work against the replacement. Then later, if you tried to replace the file to its original, that original would not be there. You would just be replacing the current with a copy of itself. I am not trying to confuse you. We need to find this out, though.

Right now, the state of your hard drive is more urgent than anything else. Let's deal with that first and then see how it goes.

I had a friend over awhile ago who looked at the themes. Anything he did was from the hard drive.

That's correct.

Quote:
You'll be told that the drive is locked and asked if you want to run the check at next boot. Choose yes.

Restart and allow it to run.

But don't restart until, you have run both commands. then chkdsk will run on restart and may take some time to finish.

OK. Thanks for the information.

I am bery concerned about the state of your drive and think that's our #1 priority right now. Go ahead and get the chkdsk's done and then report back.

Get your important files backed up to CD or DVD if you can. It would be a shame to lose all your information if your disk goes bad!

No. that isn't it.

Did chkdsk run when you restarted?

IF not, please follow my instructions again. It's getting late her and I can't stay much longer.

I followed your directions from above and when i paste chkdsk/r/f, the type of file is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? [Y/N]

Then i paste chkdsk D:/r/f and it says cannot open volume for direct access

Look in the right pane for an item whose source says winlogon. The time and date should be the most recent.

Double click on that event to get the report chkdsk created.

That copies it to your clipboard. Paste that in here.
