Solved: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when trying to watch video/start games
Hey, first post on forums (yay :P)

Anyhow, just recently, I've started getting the dreaded BSoD on my computer. I first noticed it when I tried to start games and later noticed it happening when I tried to open video files, no matter what file type or in what program the BSoD still appears to taunt me.

As I've encountered the same type of error before ("IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"), I figured it must've been one of my RAM-sticks that's fried...again. But after leaving Prime95 overnight to run the "Torture test" and encountering no problems, I thought it might be something else.

Here's info about the BSoD taken from Event Viewer:

Quote:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 8.1.2008
Time: 15:05:55
User: N/A
Computer: CALLEN_XP
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000000a (0x00000016, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804dbda3). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini010808-03.dmp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I've also attached the last 5 minidumps to this post for your perusal, all from when I've tried to open a video file/fire up a game.

System specs:

Quote:
Motherboard: ASRock 939S56-M
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ @ 1.8GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM (2 x 512MB DDR400)
Hard Drive(s): 1 x 120 GB SATA
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Sound Card: Realtek AC97 Audio (integrated)
Keyboard: USB keyboard
Mouse: USB 5-button mouse
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2

Now, for the oddities;

I haven't changed anything in my system configuration lately. Not even installed any software/drivers. I did upgrade my graphics card from a GeForce 6200 TC to my current 8500 GT, but that's a month ago. After some kinks in the whole driver-uninstalling-and-installing again, I got it working fine and been so ever since...till now that is.

Second, I can run World of Warcraft fine...in windowed mode. Which is odd, since I used to get the error message when I ran WoW in full-screen mode. Haven't tried other games as of yet though.

Finally (and this is perhaps related to what I just wrote), I thought I'd run the DirectX DirectDraw- and Direct3D-tests and see what happens...DirectDraw finished fine, Direct3D prompts the same BSoD as when watching video and trying to play games.

Any replies with suggestions/possible solutions are more than welcome.

I do agree to the above findings. all dump files were pointing atkosdmini.dll which is a video driver (asus enhanced video driver)

This is a known problem with the ASUS enhanced video drivers. As you don't need them, you can just uninstall them. You may need to reinstall the Nvidia supplied drivers.

Yup, this was the case. I actually solved this after reading the post by devil_himself and doing a quick search on Google, although I actually had to re-install ASUS Enhanced Video Drivers before I could uninstall them from Add/Remove Program. Go figure.

After I managed to do that, it was easy enough to just install Nvidia's drivers, which I had from a previous attempt at trying to fix my problem.

Thanks for all the replies and help, appreciate it!

I tried to run the install program to re-install the drivers and then remove them but when I try to run it it informs me that it is already installed? anyone know a way around this I've tried to go in the device manager to remove it from there but do not see it. I have already used the NVIDIA drivers but I still need to do away with the ASUS enhanced video driver.

[EDIT] Nevermind. Uninstalling all the Nvidia drivers did away with the ASUS bit too
