Solved: Lenovo T60 Laptop Slow to Boot Up
Hello. I have a laptop that is slow to boot-up. It's a work laptop, so it should be relatively virus free as it gets updates when I connect to the network.

I also went into MSCONFIG and unchecked a few items that looked like non-essentials (qttask, msnmgr, ituneshelper, etc.).

I recall once before a few years ago (and another laptop), an IT person reconfigured a few things for me and it made a huge difference in the speed of the boot up.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

Check if your hard drive has fallen back to PIO transfer mode from DMA.Go to START, then RUN, type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Doubleclick
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers,doubleclick on Primary IDE Channel. Click on the Advanced Settings tab, for the Current Transfer Mode it should say
Ultra DMA Mode, if it says PIO then close the Primary IDE Channel Properties window. In Device Manager right click on the Primary IDE Channel and select
Uninstall, then close Device Manager and reboot your computer. Windows will reinstall the Primary IDE Channel with the proper settings.

Your T60 is relatively new. It might have an SATA HDD instead of an IDE HDD.
IDE = integrated drive electronics
SATA = serial Advanced Technology Attachment

If Gnomad's solution doesn't help you, please read the following.

Which version of Windows have you?
RIGHT click "computer" or "my computer"
Left click "properties"

When did the problem begin?
Can you associate the onset of the problem to the addition or removal of hardware or software, to include an update to Windows or your antivirus program? Have you run a registry cleaner recently? I am NOT suggesting that you run a reg cleaner.

Boot to safe mode.
Does that help?

If the problem is not resolved when booting to safe mode:
Backup your data immediately.
Run chkdsk

If it passes chkdsk, run dias for your HDD.
Check for diags if your HDD is a Travelstar.
