Exclamation Solved: Failed Windows XP Reinstallation/Formatting
Hi all.

I have just attempted to reinstall + format Windows XP on my laptop as I've had some serious spyware issues, however whenever I do so it fails and presents the error message of:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF76120BF, 0XF7A5E208, 0XF7A5DF08)

*** pci.sys - Address F76120BF base as F760B000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

Can anyone please explain why this occurs?

What version of XP and what service pack? Is this the OS that came with the computer?

XP Home Edition and Service Pack 2, and yes it is. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Yes, what make and model? Does it have recovery disks or a recovery partition?

Dell Inspiron 640m.

I have found a recovery disc produced by dell and I am unware if there are any recovery partitions.

Recovery disks are different for different models. Is that disk the one that goes with your Dell?

Dell does not furnish a recovery disc . . they give you a Reinstallation CD which just installs the Operating System . . no drivers/programs.

See this for more on the Restoration partition that they have on some pc's

It would have been real nice to know that you have multiple threads going here, instead of letting us beat our heads against the wall in more than one thread

I see two for combofix....I'm going to close the REPEAT so we don't start the same head banging.

Wow . . ComboFix is a lot more powerfull than i thought! . . never knew it could reinstall an operating system!!!
