I have made an app that will allow you to install the latest ati driver [currently 8.3] in win2k. If anyone needs this, you can PM me and I will send you the app. It is 900K so not a big deal. I have to write a set of instructions on how to use it however it is pretty simple to use.
I will leave this as a sticky for a while to see if anyone needs this app.
Update. There seems to be some "issues" with drivers later than 8.3 so I would go to the driver archive and download driver 8.3 or earlier.
I never thought this would be so popular. Since there is a problem using PM for first time posters, I have uploaded the file to this site. http://www.filefactory.com/file/7baf...2k_ati_app_rar

OR, it could be that those of us who use Win 2000 use video cards with nVidia chips.

I am not sure since I have not tried to install one of those cards. | | Junior Member with 2 posts. | | | | Well, ermmm....I could actually use such a thing!
I have win2000 and a sapphire HD 3870 (ati radeon)...I didn't know they didn't release win2000 drivers anymore! :-(
Can you please help me? | | Moderator with 20,658 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Reno, NV | | Quote:

Can you please help me? | I sent you the app via email. | | Junior Member with 2 posts. | | | | Since you were so kind to send me the app, I'll give some feedback. As I emailed, I had some problems (BSOD) when I tried it with the 8.5 version. (BTW, if you ever adapt it to that latest driver, give me a sign! :-) ) Since you recommended using 8.3 then, I downloaded that version.
Now, I would not recommend d/l the whole catalist suite, since that did/does give some trouble with the adapted version, aparently. (Maybe that's partially why it didn't work with the 8.5 version too, though I must say there's also a big difference in folder-structure and what not between those versions.) Thus, ultimately, I decided to d/l only the drivers (8.3). (Small suggestion; maybe be a bit more clear in your read-me - for the noobs, I mean :-p - where to put it; with the 8.5 suite, it was clearly indicated as a subfolder 'drivers', but not so with the driver-package of the 8.3 version. But, of course, since the cmd line script says when it found the drivers (or not), it's not that big of a problem).
Ok, so, to make a long story short: it worked perfectly! Well, at least untill now; I haven't tried any games or anything. I guess it has all the functionalities the normal drivers have though, right? But it recognised it as a 3800 card, and the drivers work - can change the settings and such, etc.
So, a big thnks to you! | | Moderator with 20,658 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Reno, NV | | Yes, it does work well. I changed the readme.txt file to say download driver only. I never install CCC so I just assumed others would do the same. | | Distinguished Member with 5,194 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced |

#12 | I just got a new HD3470 card. I downloaded the ATI 8.3 driver, obtained this utility from crjdriver, ran the update and installed the updated driver.
Voila! It worked, the primary adapter is properly detected and is working perfectly for my purposes!
Thank you crjdriver, outstanding work! You have saved me from the excruciating pain of twiddling around in 640x480 | | Junior Member with 1 posts. | | |
