Hello,

I am having trouble with my computer (Gateway laptop, Windows XP professional) freezing randomly. It always gets past the Windows startup screen (black screen windows logo), and gets past the log in process. It will freeze at anytime. Sometimes taking as long as 4-5 hours (to freeze) and as short as just long enough to boot up to my desktop. I brought it in for service and they did a diagnostic check and found that everything was fine with the hardware.

I have run Secunia, combofix, ccleaner, tweaknow reg cleaner, malwarebytes, spybot and norton scanner as well as a full AVG 8.0 virus check. I have also updated the driver for my Synaptics pointing device as I thought that may have been an issue. Attached is my Hijack this log. Any help would be appreciated. My IT department will have to reimage my computer if I can't get this solved "on my own". I don;t want that. Thanks for any help you can give.

But in the meantime can you do this

Use explorer to locate your spool folder
C:\WINDOWS\spool\PRINTERS
You are looking for a jammed print job.
If you see any .spl or .shd or .tmp files delete them.

Thank you for the response. I have searched Windows\spool\printers and cannot find a spool folder. Should I be looking anywhere else? Thanks for your help.

That now I am experiencing hesitation with the cursor. For instance when I try to drag the cursor (using the touch pad) (I do NOT have a USB mouse attached) the pointer will stop for about a second every three or four seconds or so. It did this earlier this week so I installed an updated driver for the Synaptics pointing device and thought the problem was solved. I am hoping this is all related. Thanks for any help you all can give.

Found the spool folder and the printers folder and it was empty.
