For off, I thought all the files were emptied from the Deleted folders. So get rid of those first.

Have you tried clicking on the Compact Now button yet? As you will see, it compacts the file.

Also, as with any critical data, you should always have backups.

You don't compact from the individual folders. That's why nothing happens.

From that same Advanced button, is the filename and location exactly the same as the one you are reporting as being ~1.9 gigs?

Here is a page I put together to better help you maintain your Outlook PST file.

http://www.onecomputerguy.com/app_in...k_maintain.htm

Among other things it shows:

1. How to determine the folder size (which can be different than the file size)
2. How to determine the name and location of the PST file in use (saves searching and more importantly guessing)
3. How to compact the pst file

Also, since Outlook2003 does not have a 2 gig file limit, was this from a previous version?

I deleted everything in the delete file, then it did Compact it.

Here are the sizes of the folders after the Compact:
Inbox - 508692
Sent - 96859
Deleted - 0

I still cannot Change anything in my Adress Book. I get the same error message as before.

I went to your webpage and changed the name on the large outlook.pst file to outlook 2005-2008.pst. When I ccreated a new folder it appeared as a new folder but I could not find the window "Create MS Personal Folder" - is that really neccasary? Also can I drag or Copy email and palce it into this new file in explorer?

What is the file size on the computer. The Folder size in Outlook and the File Size on the hard drive can be completely different.

Also, I would not suggest making any significant changes just yet. Too much is still unknown.

So to keep things on track:

What is the name and location of the PST file that Outlook is using? From the information being provided so far, it is not confirmed that the 1.9 gig file on the hard drive and the one that is being used by Outlook are the same. Or there is something else not being reported.

To make sure this is all correct, can you post a screenshot of the screen in Outlook where it shows the filename and location that Outlook is using.

Also can you post a screenshot showing the folder size.

Can you then show the exact location of the file you are showing is 1.9 gigs

I would love to know how to do that..I thought just apple did that. I have been writing down and typeing it in.

The Print Screen Button has nver worked for me - I've tried Control and lots of buttons with it with no luck.

Do you want the files within Explorer or on the folder page.?

PC's have been able to copy and paste windows for just a few years now. The reason PrtScn hasn't worked for you is that you need to press Alt+PrtScrn

Can you at least copy and paste the line of text that shows the file name and location in Outlook? May be easier that trying to do the graphic

Does this confirm with the file name and location you are looking at on the hard drive?

The purpose is, like back on page one or so, to determine if the PST file Outlook is using is the one you are looking at on the hard drive. So far that has yet to be determined.

It doesn't work for me.

In Outlook/Personal Folder-
inbox 513,832
Sent 98,450
Deleted 7059
Imp. to Keep 98450
Plus several others UNDER 100 KB

The route where my outlook.pst file is stored:

C:\Docs & Settings\Michele\local Settings\Appl Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Hope this helps

Is "C:\Docs & Settings\Michele\local Settings\Appl Data\Microsoft\Outlook" where Outlook reports the data file being kept?

What is the exact location for the 1.9 gig file?

What is the total size as reported by Outlook? Only a few folders are shown.
