Exclamation Solved: i have a memory question,,,,please help ,,thank u.

ok i have windows xp home sp3.

one thing i miss about windows 98 is that when you check to see how much free memory you have left it will show what amount of ram you have installed and also the amount you have left over .

in windows xp home sp3 you get too much info for a person to understand.

i have a 1 gig of ram installed,, i want to know in one simple answer how many MB i have left over .

how can i find out ?.

yes i know i can right click on the task bar and bring up task manager,,thats the problem,, too much info,,lol.

or is there a program i can install that is free, that will give me that one simple answer ?.

hope some one can help,,,thank u soo much ,,this is a great forum.

Start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information

In system information you have System summary where in the right pane near the bottom you have Total phyical memory and Available physical memory.

but your question implies that you may think memory is like hard drive space, its not. The OS uses ALL available physical memory and then lies/allocates it to programs. You will never use up all your memory.

There are different widgets and gadgets out there that can monitor memory.
I am using google desktop sidebar on vista because it uses a lot less
resources than vista sidebar.
I got a gadget that looks like tachometers for cpu and memory.
It works for XP too.
