I’ve reached something of a standstill trying to repair WinXp on my PIV PC. The sequence of events goes like this:
1) My PC became infected with a number of viruses and spyware right after connecting to ADSL;
2) WinXP now fails to load, instead coming up with the error message 0xc0000005 Click on OK to terminate the application;
3) When I try to access Task Manager via Ctrl Alt Del the Task Manager button is greyed out;
4) I ordered a WinXP Home Edition CD from MicroSoft and I put it into the drive;
5) I hit Enter to interrupt Startup;
6) At Startup Interrupt Menu I hit F12 to Choose a temporary startup device
7) Then I select CD ROM;
8) Setup then examines hardware configuration;
9) I press R to Repair a WinXP installation using recovery console
10) It then goes into a DOS screen with 1: C:\WINDOWS and asks Which Windows installation would you like to log onto?
11) I press 1 and Enter;
12) I’m prompted to Type the Administrator Password;
13) I don’t know this so I restart, go into the BIOS and reset the Administrator Password;
14) I repeat steps 5) – 12) and type in the new Administrator Password;
15) The Password is not valid
16) I restart and go into the BIOS and reset the Administrator Password again just to make sure;
17) After three attempts, each of which returns The Password is not valid I can’t proceed with repairing the WinXP installation;
I could reinstall WinXP but I have files in My Documents that I want to hang onto and selecting this option says My Documents may be lost;
Is there a solution to this?
