Windows XP has decided it doesn't like my Belkin F8E815 wireless
PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo.
I see the problem when I switch off my PC and then switch on again. (Restarts don't seem to bother it.)
At the login screen, my mouse works fine... until I touch my keyboard. Then both lock up--meaning all key strokes and mouse movement/clicks are ignored. Windows itself hasn't frozen; I can shut down with a single press of the power switch.
I have tried a few things and discovered the following:
- I can "fix" the problem by rebooting, going into the BIOS setup and pressing F10 to save and exit. Oddly, I don't have to make any changes to the BIOS--just save and exit! Pressing escape to exit without saving doesn't work. Of course, this fix works only until my next reboot.
- I can put in my Ubuntu DVD and run off the disc without any problems at all. (Hence this being posted to the Windows XP forum.)
- I tried out my kids' USB keyboard/mouse combo. They work fine with my PC.
- I borrowed a wired PS/2 keyboard and wired PS/2 mouse from work. They also work fine with my PC...
- ...In fact, I can even use the wired PS/2 keyboard from work with my troublesome Belkin mouse without any trouble...
- ... but... when I swap (meaning I use the Belkin keyboard with mouse from work) I see a similar problem. (Only the keyboard locks up, not the mouse.)
I will be very grateful and impressed if you guys can solve this one for me.
