Unhappy desperate CD/DVD driver help needed
Hi everyone,
well i have been having a lot of trouble with my cd/dvd drive, it does not work. when i put a cd or dvd in the light flashes a few time and then stops, also when i turn on my computer i the is a strange sound that i hear from that drive. In the past i had the same problem and i fixed it by deleting the upper and lower filters from the registry for that driver, when i do that now nothing seems to happen. I am really frustrated with this problem. I have heard that iTunes has been known to corrupt cd/dvd drivers, i do have itunes. I really hope some one can help me.

Thank you

Sounds to me like you need to replace the drive.

well considering how illiterate i am with computers, does that mean i have to install another driver or do i have to go and physically buy another cd/dvd drive from a store? im terribly sorry i have a lack of computer knowledge. do you think that itunes could have done it and if so, when i do get another drive will itunes corrupt that one also? what should i do about that?

I agree with Rich-M that you probably need to buy a new CD/DVD drive (unit). But, it doesn't hurt to see if it is possibly a corrupted driver.

In Device Manager unistall the CD/DVD, then Restart the PC and WIndows should reinstall the driver.

You do not need any drivers. That would only make the situation worse. XP supports drives natively, and they are connected directly to your board. You only need a driver if using a PCI add-on for the drive.

Time for a new drive. No drivers needed, so just plug it in after setting the jumpers.

Both optical drives on my desktop have drivers. No doubt generic Microsoft drivers, but still drivers that could get corrupted.

NO drivers will fix a bad cd drive and Itunes did not do this either you asked me in a PM so I'll answer here and share with everyone. You need to buy a new player and take the old one out. Based on the questions you ask, and not trying to be mean, I would get someone to help you or take the tower to a shop.
