Blue screen & error message
Hi,

Recently, when trying to start up my computer, I keep getting a blue screen after it fails to start up. I've tried starting with "last best known configuration" and "safe mode," but both ultimately end with the blue screen and an error message. I've received two on various times trying to start the computer up, essentially stating:

Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

PartMgr.sys

Tech. Info: STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF77114AB, 0x00000000, 0xF77114AB, 0x00000000)

PartMgr.sys - Address, F77114AB base at F7701000, date stamp 00000000

and the other one:

0x0000007E (0xC00000006, 0x806A17B9, 0xF78C66E8, 0xF78C63e4.

I think the problem may have to do with a new video/music converting program I downloaded; a friend of mine uses it also and told me that after a while of having it on the computer, it begins to mess things up so he always uninstalls it after using it, but this time I forgot to uninstall it; I've had it on my computer for about 3-4 days. I think that I just need to uninstall it, but everytime I try to start the computer in normal/last good configuration/safe mode, I get the blue screen. I'm not sure how to work around this. I also have very low harddrive memory available currently; not sure if this is relevant.

My computer hardware/innerworkings knowledge is very limited, so I'm sorry if this question in relatively simply solved! But please use detailed/layman's language when providing advice if at all possible. Thank you!

If you reboot and act as if you want to go into safe mode ( namely - pressing F8). One of the lines will refer to safe mode with command prompt. Highlight and press this. Once you have the C:\....etc on your screen type "chkdsk" (without the "") and press enter. It'll take about 10-15 mins and then after that it should allow you back into windows to uninstall the program.

I tried entering "safe mode with command prompt," but after doing this, my computer didn't give me an opportunity to type anything; it just started listening what I'm guessing is programs or something else similar. It would get through a few ok, but then it keeps "freezing" on this:

multi(0)disk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\agpCPQ.sys

More updates:

I tried starting the computer in "last known good configuration" and after a considerable period of time in which I had a blank black screen, this message came up on a black screen:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root> \system32\ntoskml.exe. Please - reinstall a copy of the file."

Then, I tried to start it up normally, and after not loading the following message appeared:

"Primary hard disk drive 0 not found. No bootable devices, strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

F1 displayed the same message; F2 brought me to the setup uitlity where I preformed a diagnosics test. All the tests passed except for one:

"Start DST - Short Test.
Fail
Error Code: 1000-0141
Msg: No drive detected"

Then later, after the test completed I got the following message:

"No diagnostic utility partition found. Insert "Drivers and Utilities CD", and it said to press OK and it would restart the system and boot off the CD. I've waiting on doing this so far (I'm not sure I even know where that CD is if I even have it). Help???

On the command prompt - depending on your system speed/RAM etc, it can take a while to load beyond the final line - sometimes as long as 15 minutes....can you try that again- especially if you're not sure where drivers/utilites disc is. Given your hard disk is nearly full, you may have a longer wait......!

Beyond command prompt (i.e. if that doesn't work!) - I'm assuming you have Windows XP based on the file. If you have a desktop you might want to check that the "bios" battery is not dead. When PC first starts up press F2 or Del (depending on whichever is required to enter setup).Look at date on the standard settings. If the PC date has reverted to any date before 2008 then the small round battery needs replacing (CR2032). (Post back if you need further advice on this!)
Given that your hard drive is nearly full - can you give some more info. ie. Operating system - PRocessor; amount of RAM and hard disk size? Some of the problems you are subsequently experiencing may well be due to hardware - and possibly a virus. The programme you downloaded may have a "sleeping" sting if it isn't freeware. At tjis point I would be getting out the system restore disk in readiness for a new hard drive or a reinstallation.
