Angry Solved: HELP!!!!!!!!! Dell Memory
Hi

I put memory on my computer (1GB) after I installed it I get this message

ALERT! OS INSTALL MODE ENABLED. AMOUNT OF AVAILABLE MEMORY LIMITED TO 256MB STRIKE F1 KEY TO CONTINUE F2 TO RUN THE SET UP UTILITY

what does this mean?

Did you try pressing F2? Look for a setting in the Setup utility for OS install mode and set it to disabled, then save changes.

Yes I went to F2 and the memory slot said single...I thought i could change it to double (what was I thinking)

How many sticks of RAM for the 1GB total, and what slot numbers are they plugged into?

I had 256mb and I added 1GB --- I put the new memory in the open slot next to the orginal one

The motherboard may not like that combination (depends on the notherboard and the RAM). Maybe try pulling out the 256MB and move the 1GB to where the 256MB was.

good grief..........all i wanted to do was make my computer perform better...........ok--all i thought i had to do was go into setup and change a few things..... but I will try when i get home tonight

Some one told me to take out the lesser memory...but before I tried it i did what you said to disable and save and guess what? that worked!!!
