Solved: Hi Everyone! Working out the kinks in XP
Hi, I fixed my problem with the corrupt XP CD and now I'm officially dual-booting Vista and XP on my laptop!

Now, I have to make XP run smoothly on a machine that was built for Vista.

1) I've downloaded the drivers according to the ones on Vista. Meaning, I used a tool to find out what all the drivers were on Vista, went to the websites, and downloaded "XP versions". However, I'm getting the annoying problem of driver installations aborting by themselves and I can't figure out why.

They typically say something like

Quote:
Setup aborted due to an error
or
Quote:
Setup did not complete successfully
Without the drivers, I don't have internet access while under the XP Pro OS. Can anyone help?

2) I accidently set the Power-On password, so the laptop makes this obnoxious beep noise every time it boots up requesting the password. How do I de-activate this? I'm sure it's annoying my roommates.

Specs:

Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2700 Notebook PC F.21
2.00 gigahertz AMD Turion 64 X2

If you need anymore information, let me know.

Drivers are the wrong ones or they would not do that. Sorry
You need to try and find the right ones manually not with a tool just get the make and model and Google for them.

disable the BEEP in the BIOS?
GENERIC PC / BIOS

When you don't know any particulars for the computer or BIOS in question, or you don't see it in the lists above, start your attempts from the following key combinations:

I found all the drivers. Thanks.

This is something specific. If you go to the BIOS menu, you might find an option for a "Power-On" password. If you set one, then the computer asks you to put in a password everytime it boots up, and it also makes a loud beep noise.

I want to undo what I did so that the computer won't ask for such password.
