Low VM is also a sign of a spyware/malware infection. Make sure you are virus and spyware free.

To answer favallee question, I see 34 possesses

34 processes running in the Windows Task Manager isn't bad at all.

I have 28 processes running in my Gateway desktop with Windows XP, but I run a lean startup load.

If you can post a HijackThis log here, we can see what your computer has running in the background, and if there are any suspicious entries associated with viruses, malware, spyware, etc..
