Solved: WIndows reinstall problem
I have a problem in that my computer will not recognise a large proportion of the installed hardware on my system.

The computer is a Mesh Elite which came supplied with a windows recovery disk (windows Media Centre).

Originally, planning to donate the computer to my parents, i uninstalled all my programs and files (note no system files were harmed in this process afaik).

On arrival to install the machine in its new home, i discovered that the DVD RW was not reading and also that there was no sound. After checking the leads, i opened Device manager which showwed problems with DVD RW and HD Audio on HD Audio Bus.

I tried uninstalling these and reinstalling with no luck. I did a search on line which uncovered that the high and low filter files were corrupt (Ms knowledge base article which gave an automated solution). It sorted the DVD drive but I still couldnt use sound though.

I tried the windows recovery disk and then a windows reinstallation to try to cure the HD audio issue with no avail.

The latest Reinstallation has now removed any internet access (i have tried everything to configure the access but it doesnt seem to recognise the 1394 port) and it is also not picking up the video card (Nvidia 7600gt) and the sound card (creative sound blaster - unsure of the exact spec).

The DVD drive is now working and the HD Audio Bus issue is no longer flagged up though.

Any thoughts on how i can solve this???

Hello neilwood,

Did you reinstall with the recovery disk that came with the computer? And has any of that hardware (video, sound, network) been added since you bought the computer?

It seems like you do not have appropriate drivers installed for your hardware. You will have to acquire the appropriate drivers for those devices and install them. Check with the manufacturers of each device and download the appropriate drivers. The Mesh site would be a place to look as well if the hardware was OEM.

None of these items are new - they are all as supplied in the original build. I will look for the drivers on my new comp and transfer them via USB flash drive.

The main issue for me is the internet as the network port is onboard the mobo, but i guess i can try the mobo manufacturers site for the driver or failing that i buy a network card (or rather my parents do cause its them that want the machine!)

Also, the 1394 port is firewire which can be used for networking but is not usually. You want drivers for the onboard NIC (RJ45 connection) which should be on the recovery disk supplied by Mesh. If you used the original recovery disc they should all have been installed. I can't say why they weren't on the last install. Mesh may be your best bet for sorting the issue.
