Question MIA Audio driver
I just discovered i no longer have media sound (i have system sound). I checked earlier posts (trying to be a good girl-not waste your time), which guided me to checking 'Devices', & found 2 flagged w/ "?"s - including one called 'Multimedia Audio Controller', & learned "The drivers for this device are not installed." (I don't know if it's relavant - but when i used the troubleshooting feature it directed me to 'sound, video, & game controllers' in the Devices menu, & there are NO devices flagged there, properties indicates 'Legacy Audio Drivers', other 'Media Control Devices' & 'System Devices' are "working properly". The flagged devices are under 'Other devices' - but maybe they got sent there cos they're MIA-?)

I recently uninstalled several programs, and all i can figure is i somehow accidently uninstalled a driver-? I don't have the original discs so, obviously, a reinstall is fruitless.

I don't know much about this stuff (obvious, eh?). I guess my quesitons are: Are those MIA drivers the culprits, even though nothing under 'sound devices' is flagged? &, if so - how do i reinstall the drivers? I've found sites that'll scan the drivers but i'm bug-phobic, & the ones i found make you pay for the updates/installs in the end, anyway.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! Sorry i'm so wordy, it's 4:00am - maybe i'm a little loopy. I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out on my own!

Thanks again, guys!

This is the support site for your Dell Dimension 2400:

http://support.dell.com/support/topi...NT_P4_CEL_2400

which I recommend you keep saved in your browser Favorites list for future reference.

This is the software and driver downloads site for Windows XP:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid=

If you click the + in "Audio", you'll see 3 entries. The first one is for Analog Devices integrated audio - which I'm relatively sure is the AC'97 audio in your desktop.

Click the "Download Now" link to download and install the audio driver.
