Solved: NEED XP H.E. drivers and apps cd
I just finished a re-installation of windows on a fairly old computer....got windows installed through the original windows cd, but i have lost the drivers and applications cd......I cant do anything without any drivers...cant even hardwire to the router to d/l drivers.....any help??? anyone know where I can get a copy of the drivers/app cd? Its a gateway, so old, they dont really care enough to help.......any help would be much appreciated.

Seems like you gotten yourself into a small mess, no worries, we will get you up an running!

Lets do this step by step...

Press start
Right click my computer
Select properties
Hardware tab
Select Device Manager

What do you see?

This will help us pinpoint exactly what drivers to get you

and...
do you have access to a cd burner, USB thumb drive, or floppy disk to transfer drivers?

What you need to do is open the properties of the device in question. and click on the Details tab. It will display a string such as the following:
PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_4320&SUBSYS_0CC5105B&REV_14

What you need is the Vendor and Device code. For example, the Vender is 11AB and the device is 4320.
Next you need to goto to http://www.pcidatabase.com/index.php to search for your device.
Alternatively, if the above is too complex. Try a Device Scanner such as the one provided at http://www.driverguide.com.

"i have lost the drivers and applications cd......"

You only get this with a OEM version of windows. It is illegal for you to install this version of windows on anything but the original hardware.

Thanks to all....finally fixed the problem through gateway website. Luckily it was the OEM version of windows that came with the computer, so no problems there. thanks for the legal advice though.
