Angry Solved: PC has become a snail
Hi,
My PC has begun to run really slow, its taking forever to do the simpliest tasks. I am running XP and have run the virus scan and spybot and although they usually pick up something and remove it nothing changes with the speed. I have tried system restore as well but that seems to have been disabled by something, it goes through the motions but when the PC reboots it says was unable to restore to selected date. Any help much appreciated.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

When was the last time you defragged your drive? How many other programs or processes are running at the same time?

To see what free space you have, click Start, go to your C drive, right click,go to bottom to Properties and click. Will show how much. Defragging doesn't require any other programs to be running. It sorts your files and puts things into a more accessable order.Other programs could be running in the background without you knowing it. Go to the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, right click,go to Task Manager and click. Mine currently shows 29 processes running. Those are my AV,firewall, antispyware, and essential OS requirements.

Do as hrlow2 said . Run defrag then come back here and we can help you trim your startup list to give you more speed .

(It's so nice to be acknowledged by your superiors.) Mostly from what is gained from trial and error. Mostly error in the earlier days.

Seems he either fixed it or broke it - hasn't responded to any of the questions/suggestions here.

Please wait for a qualified security specialist before trying any of these suggestions.
