Angry power failure
Hello, I've been helped before at this site with a blue screen issue. The same laptop is now having power issues and I don't know what to do. I bought a replacement AC adapter cord because the original was frayed with exposed wires. But the new one is not charging and the computer won't start. The connection to the computer seems a little loose to me, so that could be it, or perhaps the motherboard? I was told this might be in trouble. Any ideas would be welcome. Thank you.

It's an Acer Aspire 5050, and I bought the replacement cord through a reseller, but it was listed being specific to this laptop.

I have seen many problems with aftermarked AC adapters for laptops, many posts like yours.

Yes the "DC Jack" in the laptop itself could be damaged, would require an experienced laptop technician to determine this and repair if necessary.

if the cord going into pc feels loose then it is

I checked mine with a voltmeter.

Brett,
What exactly am I supposed to do with the one strand of steel wool? I apologize if I sound dense, but I'm not familiar with this process. Please explain. Thanks

unplug cord from computer
leave the power brick plugged into the wall
hold the strand on the outside of the cord where it plugs into computer take other end othe strand and stick it in the hole in the end of the power cord if there is power u will see or hear an arc.
the reason to use one strand is because it not pass cant much current therefore it cant damage your power brick.
