Unhappy Solved: installed xp, laptop is Very slow and wireless gone. Help me someone?
Hi, i installed windows xp and my whole laptop (dell latitude D600) slowed down. especially the internet (mozilla and internet explorer).

in device manager the following have a yellow questions mark on them:
1.o2 smartcardbus_reader
2.video controller (vga compatitble)

i dont think my laptop being slow is because of virus or spyware as i run frequent scans.

CAN someone please help me my laptop is very slow?*

THANK YOU

I also have a belarc advisory report below:

Operating System System Model Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Dell Computer Corporation Latitude D600

Hi and welcome. Unless you want truckloads of spam email, you should edit your post and remove your email address.

Did this laptop initially come with XP installed?

This is the software and support site for the Dell Latitude D600:

http://support.dell.com/support/topi...AT_PNT_PM_D600

This is the software downloads site for Windows XP:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid=

There are 22 driver entries in the "Network" sub-menu. You need to determine which driver you need.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Slot 'DIMM_A' has 512 MB
Slot 'DIMM_B' is Empty

It appears that laptop has only 512 MB of RAM.

It supports up to 2048 MB of DDR PC2700 SDRAM, so you should seriously consider adding more RAM.

Thank you for ur replies,
I dnt reli know how to delete my email, doesnt matter,

yes the cmputer already had xp installed on it, i was having some problems so i reinstalled it but it started to slow down, it became very very slow, so i reinstalled xp again thinkin it would solve the problem but its still very very slow.

i managed to get the wireless working, so the laptop being slow is the only problem.

ive always had 512mb the laptop only became slow recently, my c drives got about 70% free space, but its still very very slow it takes rufly 5 mins for the computer to start. some of the websites take 10 mins and some dont load.....

If you used the restore cd to reinstall windows, it almost has to be some other issue.

A clean install should load fairly fast, even with the low ram.

What else do you have starting up? Start, run, type msconfig, and hit enter. Then go to startup tab.

Also, right click on my computer from the start button, then go to properties, what shows there for ram?

Assuming that you booted from an actual XP CD, did you follow the steps to delete all partitions, create a new C partition, format the new C partition in the NTFS file system, and then do a fresh install of XP in C:\WINDOWS?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click MY COMPUTER to open its window and view the list of drives. What's listed there?

------------------------------------------------------------------

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - "Startup" tab. How many entries have a checkmark?

WLTRAY

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=wltray

MSNMSGR

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=msnmsgr

don't need to automatically load and run. Uncheck them, apply the change, then restart.

When the small SCU window appears on the desktop, check it and then click OK.

Check with your ISP. If there has been any P2P downloading, they could have very well limited your bandwith.
