XP administrator account
Hi. I have a problem with my Outlook 2007, in that I need to find and repair the outlook.ost file. However, the only account that is set up on my pc is the Administrator account, and I seem unable to find the outlook.ost file within the admin account.

(From having searched out this .ost problem online, I believe that the file should be located here: C:\Documents and Settings\"User Account"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Mail Files\Outlook.pst, however whenever I type in Administrator into the "User Account" section, I get nothing.

Any clues?

Thanks, Will

Hello, Will

Have a read here:

Note, you can do a computer search. And, set to 'Show hidden files and folders' in Folder Options => View.

Are you sure it is using a .ost file and not a .pst file?

And are you logging into the default administrator account? Or another account that has administrator rights? On my PC with Office 2003 it is C:\Documents and Settings\Frank\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

Hi, Thanks for your responses. Yes, I've found the .pst file, but when I start outlook, it says that it is the outlook.ost file which needs to be repaired with the scanpst.exe programme.

However, when I log onto my pc, it logs me in automatically as administrator, there are no other accounts set up, beyond default which doesn't appear to have anything in it. I am therefore assuming I have been using the administrator account for everything and that this hidden outlook.ost file must be somwhere within the 'administrator' account, but unfortunately I cannot find it. (I will try to reveal the hidden files as suggested, to see if this reveals anything).

Incidentally, on my laptop (running vista) i can find my outlook.ost file as this has been set up with an independent user account, I just can't find the file on the pc which is set up as administrator account only.

Thanks for your help so far.

Will
