Question Instructions at... Memory cannot be written
Hello,

A co-worker asked me if I had ever gotten the following error: “Instructions at 0x7e41b4c0 referenced memory at 0x7e411880e. Memory cannot be written.” I have not seen the PC so I don’t have a wealth of information here. She said it does this when she is shutting down. My first thought would be the obvious, a memory issue. However, I can’t exactly go to her home and troubleshoot this issue due to a geographical limitation. She also doesn’t have quite the expertise for me to explain how to run MemTest to her. Anyone know if this is a simple fix that I can draft up a solution tutorial for her, or is this a bigger issue that requires actual physical contact with said PC? Thanks a ton!

P.S. She is running Windows XP, but I am not sure which service pack, though I assume at least 2.

The error is usually caused by an application failure, not by memory. The bar at the top of the error window should show the application name. Also, have her look in Event Viewer under Application or System for a red "X" error that ocurred at the same time.
