Those who were able to correct the problem did so using vista specific functions. I'm not using vista. As far as I know, those xp users with the same problem either haven't fixed it or have done so editing the registry. Since I'm not knowledgeable enough to do that, I'm SOL for now.

There are not really any Vista-specific functions other than UAC in this regard. Whatever works for XP works for Vista and vice-versa.

If they know of an entry that is causing the issue, why didn't they give you specific instructions to remove it? Or, if more than one, at least tell you how to check for the ones they know of?
Same for anyone who has fixed the issue by editing the registry. Why haven't they posted the fix?

Sounds more like an attempt to pass the buck instead of solving the issue.

A registry cleaner would be great, but as they tend to find many non-existent problems, and things that are not problems, but necessary to the proper functioning of the system.
You'd have to know the specific one to repair, and the developers are the ones who know what registry settings the game uses/depends on.

I use CCleaner. It has excellent cleaning functions as well as a registry cleaner that has never in the 2 yrs Ive used it messed anything up. I use it on Win XP pro as well as XP Home and I clean my system with it at the end of everyday. I have used most other registry cleaners as well as System Mechanic so I am quite familiar with what doesnt work. CCleaner works !!! Get it. Try it...its Free
