Nobody on this website will recommend you a registry cleaner. It might do more harm than good.

Don't.

Seriously, the registry does not need cleaning (although I sometimes do).

If you decide to in spite of the admonishments to the contrary you are bound to receive here, take a full backup first and use a reputable one like CCleaner or jv16PowerTools.

Well, there's no point in me asking for help if I'm not going to listen.

I play an online game, and I'm having some technical problems. From what the admins there say, I appear to have an old registry entry that's causing a conflict, but I don't know what I'm doing. They suggested a cleaner. Given the situation, what do you folks suggest?

Well, if you describle your problem in details, you might get help on fixing the issues without registry cleaners.

The game is called Kingdom of Drakkar. Normally, the user can edit existing abilites to assign hotkeys to them, or they can define their own "macros" and hotkey those. In this particular case, I'm trying to assign an ability to activate when I press alt+x, but when I do so, all that appears is "x" in the command line. It appears to not be recognizing the "alt".

Any ideas? Or is there more info you need from me?

Does your Alt key work for other applications on your computer, like ctrl/alt/del?

Yes, my alt key functions normally in all other settings. It is definately a game-specific problem, one that other users have also experienced. Again, the suggestion to use a cleaner came from one of the game admins when her other suggestions (uninstall, remove game components, reinstall) did not solve the problem.

I would question the game site's integrity instead of your registry, especially if others experience the same problem.

Well, I've been playing this game for over 10 years, off and on. This is a new problem that arose with a recent update. Some people seem to have solved it, but nothing has worked for me.

Might be a update issue indeed (you are talking about a game update are you?). You should try to find out how other people solved the issue.

Most of the others were vista users, who were able to change a permission to make it work. All the xp users to corrected the problem did so by editing the registry, as near as I can tell.

I think you'll need more feedback from the game site administrators on how to fix the registry. A registry cleaner by itself won't solve a specific problem you don't even know about. The registry has to be edited manually. That's why the game site administrators or the game's creator are the best qualified people to help you.

I would get the specific answer(s) that work(ed) for others and compare/contrast those "solutions" and evaluate them to determine which might be applicable to your situation.

Given specific registry edits, we might be able to say if they are even in the realm of possibility to address a game-specific issue.
