Gateway Laptop not booting

Hi,
I am trying to fix a Gateway MX3702 Notebook for a suitemate of mine. When it starts up, it loads the initial Gateway bootscreen, and then goes to a black screen for approximately 5-10 minutes. After that a loading bar appears across the bottom of the screen, and it takes about 30 more minutes to fully load. After that load XP starts up fine and there are no other discernable problems.
It is a clean install of XP after a complete reformat; I was thining it might have something to do with a corrupt NTLDR file but I replaced it with the recovery console to no avail.
Any ideas would be appreciated greatly.

check if there is any usb device connected to your computer. if yes, try to boot the comp with all usb devices unplugged.

Let us know if that works better.
