| Solved: So Slow - this Dell Laptop is I am working on my sons Dell Laptop - It has become to slow to work with: Its a Dell Inspiron E1505 80 GB HD 1 GB Ram It took 9 minutes to boot up and was very slow opening anything. There was a sticky Vundo virus and others. With the helpful tips on this site and others I was able to get it to about a 5-6 minute boot up and I think the Vundo is gone. The boot up is still so long and it runs slow. Please help! | Hi, Welcome to TSG!! Run HJT again and put a check in the following: O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0006-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06) - O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0007-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_07) - O16 - DPF: {CF40ACC5-E1BB-4AFF-AC72-04C2F616BCA7} - Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked". Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - "Startup" tab. Remove the checkmark from: KernelFaultCheck QuickTime Task Click Apply - OK afterwards, then reboot. When the SCU (System Configuration Utility) window appears during reboot, ignore the message. Place a checkmark in the window, then click OK.

| I followed the steps listed above, however I did not see the KernelFaultCheck in the Startup. Could it be called something else? Also, I noticed that the Quicktime - qttask rechecked itself when the pc was rebooted. It took about 4 1/2 minutes to boot to usable state. Would this be considered normal for this configuration? Seems slower than typical... attached is the latest HJT log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 11:10:37 AM, on 2/14/2009 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16762) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\DefWatch.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\Program Files\M-Audio\MobilePre\Install\MPInst.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\NICCONFIGSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\RegSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\Rtvscan.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\WLKeeper.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANT~1\VPTray.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\MAFWTray.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\Dot1XCfg.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher.exe C:\Program Files\Dell Photo AIO Printer 924\dlccmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dlcccoms.exe C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - | OK you still have way to many 04's meaning startup programs. Go here and you can search each startup to see if it is needed. Most can be started when you need the program , for quicktime , open it and check prefrences and see if you can find open at startup or load at startup or something like that and uncheck it. My PC is 6 years old . it is a P4 2 gig with 768 ram. from hitting the restart to full reboot takes a minute and a half. I only have 4 startup items in msconfig. when done post another HJT here

| Look for dumprep using msconfig. Run HJT again and put a check in the following: O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t (User 'SYSTEM') O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t (User 'Default user') Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked". How much ram do you have?
