A Few Problems With XP
I am having some problems in Windows XP. First, startup is a whole lot slower than it should be; also it takes a lot longer for my icons to load when I login. Second, every-now-and-then my computer will freeze and I won't be able to do anything, so I have to unplug it and plug it back. Third, when I wake up in the morning, there is always an error message that says something about a delayed write failed; the only things I have running overnight are BitTorrent and a scheduled scan for Norton Internet Security 2008. I have tried scanning with Norton, Malwareytes' Anti-Malware, Emsi A-Squared Free, and Spybot S&D.

Is this a custom built computer? A name brand? Has it ever not done this?

No, this is not a custom computer. It is a Gateway E2000. It has just recently started acting up.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive? The delayed write file error can be caused by a few issues, one is transferring large files. Try these steps and see if it corrects the Delayed Write Errors:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties to open the System Properties dialog box.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance, click Settings to open the Performance Options dialog box.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Memory Usage, click to select Programs, and then click OK.
5. Click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

On my C drive I have 37.62 GB free out of 55.90 GB (67% Free Space)
On my F drive I have 39.41 GB free out of 93.16 GB (42% Free Space)

When I went to the performance settings, both of the options were already for programs.
