Need a generic USB Webcam driver
Hi all

I got a small usb webcam from Qatar Airways.
It has no brand name and XP doesn't find a driver for it.

I've Googled all over and had no luck!
Is there a generic driver for usb webcams?

Any ideas?

Is there any chance it might show an FCC ID number on the unit?

EDIT
Does the Windows hardware device manager see the webcam? If so, does it show any information for the device properties?

Hi

No FCC ID number, only a number that reads 33-101+6650. This is written twice on the tiny board. Also 55-35365 and thats it.

The Device manager does indeed find it, it shows up as a "USB Camera" with a yellow exclamation mark. Looking in the properties, there is no helpful information.

General Tab:

Device Type: Other Devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: Location 0 (USB camera)

Device Status:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

This one will be a challenge!

Hopefully this will work:

In Device Manger, right click the USB Camera entry and click Properties.
Click the Details tab
Select the Device Instance ID (should already be selected)
Click the line of data to highlight it
Press CTRL+C to copy to clipboard (won't appear to do anything)
Click in the Reply window for your next reply
Press CTRL+V to paste the line of info.
Or type it in if copy and paste seems reluctant

This might help us track down the driver needed.

For example, mine shows this:
USB\VID_0C45&PID_6130\5&2214EF1A&0&2
Which identifies mine as a SN9C120 web cam, which is used by many brand names.
You can also try going to Windows Updates, it may identify a driver for it.

If you don't have a Details tab:
Add a details tab in Device Manager:

To add a Details tab to Device Manager's Properties dialog:

1. Control Panel | System | Advanced | Environment Variables | System variables | New.

2. Set the Variable name to DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS and the Variable value to 1.

HTH

Thnaks Jerry

Im so embarassed, the driver cd was in the book case that came with cam.

But, installing it failed - I got an error saying it could not install, the data is invalid.

However, I can now see the driver I need is SN9C102

Searched all over for this driver but can't find it anywhere?

Anyone know where I can get it or know of a brand name that uses it?

Morning bump.

I wonder if there is an updated driver as the one I have doesn't appear to work.
I found an article about registry key permissions but that didn't solve the problem.

I tried installing it on a Vista laptop but it also failed. The error mentioned not enough storage?!

Crazy.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

Since you do not mention where you found the driver or the version number of it, I have no idea if the driver found here is of any help:

EDIT: Found another one here:

Thanks for the links!

Annoyingly the camera installed on my home pc no probs.
I'd prefer to use it on my work laptop!

I'll carry on now that I have a working driver.

Greetings

The ID String (VID_0C45&PID_6011) identifies your camera as an SN9C101 + OV6650 rather than a SN9C102.

These are both the same file, 2nd link doesn't require any sign-up to download.
Driver + version 8 of MS AMCap (doesn't capture snapshots, but you can use the XP camera interface for that):
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=736775
http://www.pc210.com/downloadhtml/PC...river_290.html

The members.driversguide link Chuck provided says it's for the SN9C101 and SN9C102, but the ID string from your camera isn't in the inf file, so it may not work.
I was unable to download the driver from the versiontracker link to check it.

Just checked my driver for the SN9C120, it also covers some SN9C102 versions, but does not include the ID string from your camera. It's listed as an HP Basic Camera, and can be downloaded from the Microsoft Catalog (Using IE, not Firefox).

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/...basic%20camera

Just in case this might help other readers.
