Repair Disk - Windows 2000
I used 'Wise Disk Cleaner' and 'Wise Registry Cleaner 3' and only removed what the software said it was safe to remove. After done this, I tried to make a repair disk. I chose the option to backup the registry and put a formatted floppy disk in the drive. It told me to wait while the files are being copied. After a few seconds, I received an error message telling that the disk file was not found or is not available. Nothing is saved on the floppy disk. I tried to repeat the procedure, but it always comes with the same error. Any idea what file is missing?

Try running a sfc; go to run and type in sfc /scannow (note space) and put in w2k cd. It'll fix any missing system files. You can check by:

Click Start, Run, Type: eventvwr.msc and then Click OK

Click System

Then under Source find Windows File Protection (WFP) If there are only two entries, it means 1) It started 2) It finished.

If there are any more it means it has replaced a file. Just double click it to find out what it has done.

Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestion with the sfc. The event log tells it found only one corrupted file named quartz.dll. I not tried, after this, to do the repair disk, since in the meantime I found out that the task manager also not works. When I try to start the service, it tells me it is not possible to start the service, error code 1721. The system log tells error 0x80041315. I guess that clean software made several damages...

Another Registry Cleaner victim.

When you ran the Wise Registry Cleaner, did it make a backup before it made changes? If so, maybe you can undo the changes and that will put it back the way it was.

If not, a repair install of Windows may be the easiest solution. Just be sure you have all you data backed up first.

This sticky has some good info: Guide to Reinstall of Windows
And this is the direct link to the Win2K article at the site mentioned in the sticky: Windows 2000 Professional Repair install

There is not enough information on the steps that caused the rest of the errors you list, so it's not clear how (or if) they relate to each other.

error 1721. With out knowing exactly what you were doing, and without the complete text of the message, it's hard to know where to look.
  1. A Windows Installer message, usually seen when installing or uninstalling a program:
Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor.
  2. Error 1721. Not enough resources are available to complete this operation, seen when trying to start the Task Scheduler service, which would go along with the 0x80041315 error, which means The Task Scheduler service is not running.
But I'm not sure how we got from the Task Manager to the Task Scheduler. The Task Scheduler service doesn't have to be running for Task Manager to work. The fact that it's not running is not a good sign though. Makes me wonder what else is not running that should be running.

When you say the Task Manager doesn't work, does this mean it gives you an error, or there is no error and it just doesn't run?
There are 4 common ways to start it:
  1. CTRL+ALT+DEL, brings up the Windows Security dialog, with a Task Manager button
  2. Right click on the TaskBar, click Task Manager
  3. Start | Run, type taskmgr.exe, press Enter
  4. Double click the taskmgr.exe file in the Winnt\System32 folder.
Try all 4, one may work. If there is an error, what is the full text of the error message?

HTH
