Solved: PC restarting itself on startup
Hey.
I got some virus's on my computer. AVG detected them, healed some but the explorer.exe and winlogon.exe couldnt be healed. i thought i sorted it out cus the virus seemed to change explorer.exe to explorer.ex_ and that same with the others so i copied those files and renamed them so they ended in the right format but obviously no luck.

When i start up my computer it goes to the windows XP logo then to a black, blank screen then my computer seems to restart it self.

Help please. Im using my brothers computer to post this

Thanks in advance.

I recommend you backup your data and re-install Windows performing a re-format so you can start with a clean slate. Go to www.bootdisk.com for a boot disk so you can copy your data to a CD or USB drive before you start the re-install.

Ive read that it could have something to do with the power supply but i find that hard to believe because i was using my pc 2 minutes before i turned it off and back on again.
Im pretty sure it has something to do with the winlogon.exe file being changed.

Any ideas anyone? Please....

Edit: ive tried going into safe mode but i press F8 and it doesnt do anything.
Ive also tried the power supply and that hasnt worked.
Ive also tried starting the pc up with a disk in it (something i read) and that hasnt worked either.

Please help :'(

Ok. Thanks.
Im trying to go to safe mode but when i get the options to come up i cant go up and down or press enter to select safe mode or any other option. The screen hasnt froze because the timer goes down from 30 seconds down to 0.

Can i have a guide to help me with this boot disk stuff?
I dont understand it.

Thanks. please help.

Also i found my XP disk but when i boot my pc with the CD/DVD drive it doesnt do anything different. It just does the same as a normal failed boot.

I've seen this rebooting before
When it happened to me, I found a setting in the computer's BIOS that said "Reboot on Error". I un checked that and booted and Saw the real error that was causing the problem. It was a blue screen of death with the code that I googled and it told me what to do.

Good Luck. I hope this tidbit helps
