Cloning a hard driver IDE to SATA
Hi I hsve tried several times in case I did it wrong to clone my old IDE hard drive to a new SASA hard drive. I used EASEUS Partition Magic. It comied my old hard drive with no errors. When the process was done I unhooked the old hard drive and had the system to boot off of the new hard dusk. Lng dtory short it won't boot after several attempts. I put the old drive back in the system with the new SATA hard drive and all the files look to be on the new drive. Is there any way I can copy just the files needed to boot the new drive over and then unhook the old drive to see if it will boot up that way since all the files are there. It takes over an hour to do the clone with the software just looking to get this done it's kind of frustrating.

Thanks,

Philip

Look for a SATA Controller setting in the BIOS that can be set to IDE emulation. It should run if you have that and make the change. Otherwise the problem is probably that the SATA controller needs to have its driver installed prior to the OS getting installed so its not going to work to clone it from IDE.

If you fitted the SATA drive with a SATA/IDE adapter and hooked it to the IDE channel it would also work as is if the BIOS setting isn't available.

computer info
Computer is a ibm clone with a MSI PM8M3-V mother board running windows xp it has on board SATA and ide controllers. No settings for ide emulation on the onboard sata controller. Windows recognize the SATA drive so I'm guessing the drivers that windows use are ok?

Thanks for the replys
I use the different software recommended by NYOB and it worked the first attempt at cloning. So after all the problems I wouldn't recommend EASEUS software, it only works 1/2 way.

Thanks for the reply!
