Red face Can't add Network Printer to XP
I use several laptops on my home network:
  1. a MacBook supplied by my employer
  2. a Toshiba that my family uses (Vista Home)
  3. a Dell that my son owns (Vista)
  4. an Averatec that I often use (XP)
I recently added an HP 7680 Officejet Pro that connects directly to my router.

The first three computers on the list easily found the printer and work with it flawlessly.

I have tried several times to add this printer to the XP machine, but it can't find it on the network. Here is how I have been doing it:

Control Panel
Printers and Faxes
Add printer
Network printer
. . . and so on.

Any ideas?

Browse "my network places".
Is the printer shown there?
If so,double click it.
If not,you may need to add the printer ports/IP to execptions
in windows firewall or any other firewall you may be using.

I don't see it in My Network Places".

How do I determine the printer ports/IP to exceptions?

You may be able to enter the routers setup page and
get a list of connected clients.
Hopefully it will also list the ports.
May be on the status page.

Also may want to run the network setup wizard in the
control panel to make sure file and print sharing is enabled.
That will at least make sure those ports are open.

Can you see the other computers in network places?
