Computer won't re-format!
Hello!

I'm currently running an HP Desktop computer (Hp Pavillion 753n) with Windows XP as it's operating system.

About two weeks ago, the computer contracted a virus which pretty much ate through a lot of the files/programs/etc. and left the computer crippled, for lack of a better word. It still runs/logs in, etc. but it's not at maximum capabilities, and I felt a re-installation of the XP system would be best.

The computer has the recovery data for XP on it, (pressing F10 gets you there) BUT! Whenever I attempt recovery on the desktop I get the error, "STOP c000021a (fatal system error) and a message about how the computer will NOW SHUT DOWN, and the numbers (0xc0000034).

the computer WILL log on, but it will not re-format, and it is in DESPERATE need of a re-installation.

I've been searching the internet for a solution to this for DAYS, but I can't find ANYTHING to help me. (And supposedly the hotfix Microsoft released has a bug in it, but since I'm reformating it anyway, would that be such a problem? Also, I can't find that hotfix either.)

HELP PLEEEEASSSEEE.

Do you have an XP install disk or a recovery disk that you can boot from?

Regards,

I have a Windows XP disc from another computer I own. It's the same OS. I'm just not entirely sure how to boot from the disc when I get to setup, and I'm worried that even if I wipe XP, I won't be able to recover the drivers that come with the Recovery Console on the computer.

And there are no discs with this actual computer (the broken one).

THANKS for your response!

Have you tried to have the XP make it's own recovery CD set ???
Something like .. Programs >> PC help n Tools >> Recovery CD creator.
If it says the recovery has already been made .. there's some info on the net about how to have it make another set.

If the HP 735n has a product code sticker on the side and you have a copy of XP ..
you should be able to install it using the product code on the case.
But you will loose all the HP supplied applications.

Hi,
You defintely should check out making the disk set from the utility....it may still be available.

There may be a Recovery Partition and you can run the full or partial Recovery....yes, most HP computers have TWO types of Recovery, one that just reinstalls Windows and one that wipes everything out and restores the factory condition (Full Recovery)

Note: You should have a hard copy of the Recovery media as you never know when a hard drive will fail-- using the Recovery disk will rebuild the hidden Recovery partition for you....using the recovery disks is the only way to restore after a hard drive is replaced.

Your HP 735n System Recovery info

If you see information at the HP site that you cannot get the Recovery disk set from HP there are 3rd party online stores such as www.computersurgeons.com that can provide the same quality disk sets.

Blinddestruction:

The HP/compaq site for your HP Pavilion 753n doesn't appear to offer the recovery CD kit for purchase any longer.

However, the ComputerSurgeons site that Byteman gave you a link to does offer it for sale, so you're in luck.
