Angry Solved: Hard drive access problems
WINDOWS XP HOME< INTERNET EXPLORER 7 installed

Left click "My Computer"
Left click on any of Hard Drive C icon (HP Pavillion), Hard Drive D icon (HP Recovery) or Simple Drive (K) and the following occurs

Red X warning

"Windows cannot find 'RECYCLER/S-8-9-29-100026537-100017197-100002751-1607.com'

I have to right click each hard drive icon and left click "explore" to access the respective hard drive's contents

we recently had to rebuild the computer due to a nasty malware installation and this is the result...

any feedback much appreciated.\

Hello,
Have a read at the link below. It this case it was a malware-created autorun file hidden in the drives. See Post #12 for how this person solved their problem.

Good work. Now scan. Something caused it, of course.

Free anti-malware:

Dr. Web Cure-It
Comodo Anti-Malware
Threatfire Free Edition
MalwareBytes trial
A-Squared
PrevX CSI Free Version
Spybot S&D
RunScanner
Ad-Aware
SuperAntiSpyware
Spyware Eliminator
Emco Malware Destroyer
Spyware Doctor
All-Seeing Eye (Monitors system - pretty annoying at first until all safe processes have been approved, but settings can be changed)
Arovax Anti-spyware
Trend-Micro Rootkit Buster
F-Secure Blacklight
Bootzilla (Bootable anti-malware CD with many other tools.)

"Instant" Anti-virus (No installation--just download and run the scanner):

Threatfire Free Edition
Dr. Web Cure-It
McAfee Stinger
Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (This one installs but offers to uninstall after the scan. A fresh download contains the most recent virus definitions.)
PING with Clam (A bootable disk imaging CD with added anti-virus)
