Exclamation Solved: inspiron 1520 delayed input and system freezes
my inspiron 1520 has not always had this problem. I used to be able to play left 4 dead on pretty high settings.

Now, regardless of settings, and in the entire OS regarless of application, every 15 to 30 seconds, the system will freeze for approximately 8 seconds. Input will cease, hard drive activity will cease, fan speed will drop (using i8kfan to force high speed), and if I keep pressing the keyboard, the system beep will sound.

I can't actually remember when the problem started happening. I run kaspersky internet security suite. I doubt that has anything to do with it, but I'm not certain. The software profiles are pretty much identical from my desktop and this notebook. My desktop has never had this issue. From searching around the web, this seems to be a common issue with the 1520 models. Everyone seems to have this issue.

I cannot figure it out just yet. I have not been using my notebook that much because of this issue. Reinstalling is really not an option. If that fixes it, then it's possible to fix it without reinstalling the OS.

I have been having this same problem for about 9 months.

It is extremely reproduceable, simply because it has been happening non-stop.

Just found a solution for this.

Apparently in Dell Media Direct, the Instant Office Module is trying to sync your contacts from microsoft address book. Open Dell Media Direct, and disable the instant office module.

This makes sense to me, since I can now pin down the problem as starting when I got a new cell phone and backed up my old nokia onto my computer, contacts and all. I wasn't aware that outlook express had any contacts in it, but I loaded and sure enough, a few hundred contacts.

here is my source. (read the comments too)
