Unhappy Random login screen in XP, asking for a password when there is no password
Hi there

I bought myself a new PC last week:

Asustek motherboard
AMD Athlon 5600+
Sapphire Radeon 4670HD
2 gig ram
320g hard drive
Windows XP Pro

Anyway, everything has been working perfectly until today. I was checking facebook or something on the net, when randomly the windows XP login screen came up. I click on my user name and now it asks for a password. I never had a password to begin with so I have no idea what to type. I am 100% sure there was no password before. So then I restarted the computer and it took me to the login screen again, still asking for a password. Oh, and my virus definitions are completely up to date as I have an ADSL connection and my NOD32 virus program updates itsself automatically as new updates come in.

Would really appreciate some help, I seriously don't want to format my new PC already.

Can you boot into safemode, log in as administrator, and reset your user password from there?
