Help Please Error Message Stop 0X0000008E
I keep getting the error message STOP: 0X0000008E every time I start up my computer. This happens even when I try and start in Safe Mode. It started when windows did an automatic update and restarted the computer on its own.

I've looked around but all the 0X0000008E error messages seem to be a little different for each computer.

Here's the entire message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing the video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0XBF803E96, 0XF0F817C4, 0X00000000)

*** win32k.sys - Address BF803E96 base at BF800000, DateStamp 48ce4da7

Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

I have run every diagnostic test and they didn't find anything. I also got a new battery for my computer about 2 weeks before the blue screen appeared, if that matters. I just don't understand how an automatic update could have given me the blue screen.

Could you post a few of your latest mimidump files? They are located in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump. Please ZIP them and attach them to your next post.

I don't know how I would find them or zip them. I'm using a different computer to post on here.
Could you please explain how to find the mimidump files when I only get to the setup menu or blue screen?

Sorry, I thought you actually could get Windows loaded occasionally.

Man I would be psyched if that was the case. My computer is pretty much useless at the moment.

Any other ideas?

Do you have your installation disks? This seems like a System file has gotten damaged.

You may want to attempt a repair, if possible.
You may lose some data, but it's better than not being able to access it at all.
