n00bie: PC freezing on startup
Hi all I googled for great computer help forums, and this one popped up, so here I am.

Last night I got my computer hooked up in my new apt (w/ Time Warner & just plugging it all in in general). I went wireless with my PC, and successfully downloaded the software stuff, and hooked up to my (secure) network. The computer worked fine for an hour.

But the icon on the bottom showed a red X and said one of my home network cables was not connected. Even tho the internet was working, I clicked on the 'repair' and it all went downhill from there.

When I restarted the computer a Microsoft Password window came up, but it freezes after I type the first key. Well--the mouse still moves around, but the arrow doesn't show up over the MS password window, and therefore is wholly unhelpful. I manually shut it off and restarted again. That time I hit the 'options' icon, and it gave me the option to shut down. But the result was the same.

I am very unfamiliar with troubleshooting for computers. And I have absolutely no idea what to do with this.

Any ideas, or suggestions for me?

I am at work till 5-6, so I will be unable to do anything till later. I do have a laptop tho, so I will be able to log in to follow any advice you all might have for this problem.

Thank you so much in advance.

No thoughts? Bummer.
