External Hard Drive Not Recognized
Recently re-formatted the computer due to virus issues..all updates installed...computer does not recognize our Simple Tech 320 GB external hard drive that was recognized before..lots of pics on it!! WHen you go in "My COmputer" it does not exist when it is plugged into the USB ports..any suggestions or is all hope lost??

After reformating did you install all the drivers for your system, It probably came with a driver disc, or you can download them from the manufacturers website. If your USB ports are not working you might need the chipset driver. Does this happen with all USB devices or just this external drive?

When the drive is plugged in, what do you see in Disk Manager? Right Click My Computer > Manage > Disk Manager

External hard drive not recognized
it shows c and d drives as "healthy" under hard disks

devices with removable stoarge

DVD/CD-RW (E DRIVE)
DRIVE F (CD DRIVE)
then removable drives G, H, I and J

BUT NO EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE (DRIVE K)

the drive is powered up and working but not showing in this menu!!
