Exclamation PC is slow at start up
Yeah im talking like 5 minutes of loading at the windows xp screen when before it took like 30 seconds. Also when it finally loads the start up, PC sounds and there after, are skipping like crazy. Ive ran the latest version of AVG a million time and nothing. So im sure its not a virus, trojan, or worm. No spyware as well. Any good freeware, or to**ents that will diagnose and fix this???

Try this click Start>>Run type cmd click Ok.

In the Command Prompt type chkdsk /r click Enter

You will be asked if you want a check disk to run on next startup click Y and then press Enter

Restart your PC

It will run in 5 sections please do not interrupt it let it finish.

As noted above, VERY poor choice of language in your title. Please don't make me edit another one.

I also suggest reading the TSG Rules relating to illegal software and P2P assistance. Masking the word torrents doesn't really fool us, amazing as you might find that fact.

also, just because you've scanned with AVG doesn't mean it's caught everything.

In your instance, I would immediately suspect malware.

As for torrents, I don't know how a torrent is going to solve your issue.

I would recommend doing the following and posting the results back here, please.

Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
• The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
• Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
• Extended

o Scan Options:
• Scan Archives
• Scan Mail Bases

• Click OK & have it scan My Computer
• Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
• Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
• Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Thanks,

v

Ok i ran the scan and nothing was found. My sound was still skipping with everything (windows alert sounds and all) and i was getting a blue screen that said kernel input error. So i just did a system recovery. Seems to be alright now other than my keyboard froze up yesterday. Dont know whats going on with thatm But would anyone know anything about these intel atom processors? Im starting to think their pretty much junk but havent really heard too much on them.

I have the same issue. My sound skips, or more like it stutters on startup and thereafter.I replaced the sound card at a whoppingly wasted effort and expense. I am suspecting the virus programs. I use Norton (OMG!) and I also use Spybot and I suspect they both want to invesitage every bit and byte against their entire database each time a bit or byte is fetched. this is what it seems. I can open IE and go to utube and sometimes, if I let it run it may smooth out some, but it still stutters. I like mp3's and the little vids that my friends send via email. And they all stutter. I will run EndItAll to clean up the system a little, but it is no help. I'm following this thread to see if there is a solution. I'm thinking of uninstalling all the virus software to see for myself it is the problem. However, since venusinfurs uses AVG, it may not be Norton. Hmmmm.
Thanks
Watching for future info here.

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

You have way too many applications loading with Windows.

Click on Start, Run, type msconfig.

Under the Startup tab, uncheck all unnecessary applications. To help you decide which applications to uncheck or keep, you can use this website. Simply enter the .exe files you see at the end of your HijackThis log's 04 lines as shown on the attached picture.

Also, Norton is a real system resource hog. Not a big help to speed up a computer...
