Exclamation My Laptop Restarts at Boot
My laptop got fixed by a professional recently but I guess he didn't do too well a job. My HP Pavilion dv6000 running XP restarts at the XP load screen. It's never done this before. I have the option to boot to safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last settings that worked, and normally. None of them work. There is always a fast BSOD-ish message that is too quick to read, the computer restarts itself, then goes back to the boot option screen. Any help?

Sounds like the hard drive is shot but did it work at all when you got it back for any length of time because if not, someone needs to at least run checkdisk (chkdsk /r) from an Xp cd to see if the problem is just hard drive corruption.

It worked about as good as it did when I first got the laptop for about three weeks after it was reimaged.

Ok then somehow you need to run checkdisk (chkdsk /r) as I mentioned.

If i can't even get it booted in safe mode how can i run checkdisk?

And it's not a ventilation problem. it's been on a stand and has had a plentiful supply of air near the fan. The fan is clean as well so there's no clogging

Like Rich-M said, you need to run a Check Disk on the drive.
Find your XP Installation CD.
Put it in the computer.
Restart.
Let it boot into the CD or select the CD as a boot device yourself.
When presented with options push R for the Recovery Console.
Login to your installation (if no password then leave it blank and hit enter)
Run a Check Disk by using chkdsk c: /r
If it gets confusing try typing help and press enter.
Hopefully it is just partition corruption. If that does not fix it then it could be corrupt OS or faulty hardware. When you start the computer you can keep pressing F8 until you get to the options. Then select disable auto restart on sys failure. Write down the BSOD and tell us.
