All Users' Documents
Hi There,

I need to copy a file so that every user profile on my computer can see it, the file must be placed within the 'Documents' folder for each user.

To do this I tried placing the file within the C:\Users\Public\Public Documents folder, the file is 100% there but if i log on as a specific user and navigate to their specific documents folder the file is not present.

Im obviously not understanding the purpose of the Public folders or doing something a bit wrong

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Are you using XP or Vista? Sounds like Vista.

You have to go to the same Public documents folder, not their specific documents folder because that's where you put it in order to share it. You can in turn copy it from the Public folder to the user document folder but have to go there first to get it.

Apologies, I am on Vista.

Thanks very much for your quick reply, I see where I am going wrong then.

Is there such a folder or location where I can copy the folder so that it appears in every users personal documents folder? or is it a case of doing it individually for every user on the machine?

thanks again

one final question; are you on a domain? On a domain it should be fairly easy via gpo. Off a domain, listen to Master DaveA.

You could write a simple batch script that would copy all files from a common folder (like Public Documents) to each users Documents folder every time they log in.
Example:
robocopy "c:\Users\Public\Documents" "%Userprofile%\Documents" /XA:RSH /XO
This would copy all new and updated files from the Public Documents folder to each users Documents folder when they log in. It would not copy read only, hidden, or system files, nor would it copy subfolders.
If the user deletes a file from his Documents folder, it would be copied again the next time he logs in.
Tons of options, all depends on what you want.

Would just need a shortcut to the batch file to be placed in each users Startup folder.
