 | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | | | Solved: NTLDR missing but no way into system...Help Please I am trying to restore my wifes Gateway, I have the OEM Disk...I had just started the system restore (complete not repair) and the laptop lost power. I now have a NTLDR is missing press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart.
I have checked the BIOS and BOOT ORDER and they are on CD. I have tried to boot direct from CD, but get the NTLDR error then too. Can someone tell me how I can continue when I can't even get to a command prompt? Is my CD Drive not working? Oh yeah, I do not have an A drive. I was going to try booting from a thumb drive via USB, will this help?
Thanks. | | Moderator with 36,830 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Vermont | | It sounds like it is skipping the CD. Are you sure you have the CD-ROM at the top of the boot priority list?
Is the CD in good condition? | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | | | Yes I checked the CD Drive CD drive is @ top of the list for boot priority and the disk is in good condition | | Moderator with 36,830 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Vermont | | Do you have any other bootable CD's or DVD's that you could try to make sure it is not the disk that is the problem? What type of CD is it and where did it come from?
You could try booting from the CD included in this package: Bootable XP Sysboot Floppy and CD Images
If your problem is damaged startup files, the CD will boot your machine so they can be repaired (it contains boot.ini and ntldr).

I tried a different, but probably similar NTLDR disk, with no joy, it could be that my drive is messing up. I'm going to try and use a jump drive too, but not sure it will work | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | | | This is why i'm computerh8r...popped you disk in and nothing...same error...popped my restore disk in again and it booted up and found it. I appreciate the help and am going to mark this as completed. thanks | | Moderator with 36,830 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Vermont | | Not sure what changed, but let's hope it completes. | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Experience: Advanced | | Take out the HDD connect to another Computer as slave. #10 | NTLDR missing Di,
If you have attached the HDD of your laptop in another computer and accessed your C: and if NTLDR is present on your HDD than I can't say why error message. Check the way I tell.
====Connect your HDD to another computer by IDE or SATA cable on mother board & never by USB.
====Now if you do it successfully, boot the system and check that you can access your HDD, keep in mind that The you will find changed drve alphabet that is it will not be "C". Identify it by content go to DOS mode and go to the new drive Alphabet path and their you can copy the NTLDR from the computer you have booted from. Command line should be something like "copy c:/ntldr (your drive alphabet say Z) z: and the file will be copied.
==== If you are unable to access your drive (HDD) and the you are seeing the drives which your 2nd pc was having before you attached your HDD than change the Jumper setting. On the back of your HDD where cables fit you will find a slot with pins. On minute observation you will see a tiny plastic piece plugged in it. Take it out with some clip and fit it in another pin and than proceed with above mentioned process you will be able to solve your problem.
NTLDR is not Missing because you are seeing the "C" drive of second computer, in fact window can't give NTLDR message for sure. I have no doubt in my mind. | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
